A Burger King manager in upstate New York gave the fast-food chain's slogan "Be your way" an entirely new meaning after she was photographed piercing a worker's belly button on the ground outside the restaurant while both were working, using a pan from the kitchen for sterilization.

In the photograph, the manager is still wearing the headset with microphone drive-thru workers wear. Its unclear whether she took fast-food orders from customers at the same time she was doing the piercing.

The Free Lance is withholding the names of the workers.

Word of drive-thru Burger King belly rings spread like wild fire on social media through Malone, a small town on the Canadian border previously known for its farms and three state prisons.

So many area residents besieged the drive-thru with requests for piercings, workers summoned help from local police on Saturday, locals listening to police scanners reported on social media.

One of the pranksters posted video of her request.

"Hi can I help you?," a worker asks through the drive-thru's speaker.

"Can I get a belly button piercing please?," the young prankster politely asks.

Not missing a beat, the Burger King worker replies through the speaker: "I'm sorry but that person is no longer employed here."

Some observers on social media appeared mystified by all the public attention given the petty controversy.

"What in the welfare rat public assistance made me go look for a job shit did I just read?!?," one person commented.

The flames started rising when Breanna Rouselle went to her local Burger King for a meal on Mar. 18.

"Do not go to Burger King in malone!!!!! I opened a burger and there was a hair on it," the 31-year-old posted on Facebook afterward.

Local residents chimed in right away. One of them was Chad Milliser.

"I heard they are kind of ghetto," he reported.

Not everyone was supportive. "Have a good night Karen," was Pamela Henault's response.

Rouselle took exception. "Just like calling bitches out when they're wrong and being stupid bitches," she replied.

A third party objected to Henault's interjection and, several tarty comments later, someone was called a "crackhead."

By now, almost the entire town was reading the posts.

"Wow," one observer commented.

All that was before it got really interesting. It got really interesting when Lace Heiserman posted a photograph of the general manager piercing a worker's belly button, on the ground, behind the Burger King, in the middle of the day.

"The GENERAL MANAGER piercing another employee's belly button on the GROUND while on the CLOCK! This place is literally a walking health hazard," the post said.

"The Malone Telegram think I found y’all’s next story," Katei Monique posted, tagging the newspaper.

But nobody was buying the local newspaper anymore because of the Internet and, in particular, social media. So The Malone Telegram, like hundreds of local newspapers across America, was suffering from falling circulation. It abandoned its office and laid off its one staff reporter leaving an editor alone in 2023.

One Facebook observer chose to be charitable with their observations and noted "you should give them credit, at least they are sticking to protocol for piercing and wearing gloves."

Others used the opportunity to sharpen their Photoshop skills.

Most comments were not so forgiving.

"The whole place needs to be shut down if they’re doing this shit," Ashton Bushey wrote. "This is disgusting."

Another pointed to the locale, suggesting it was particularly ripe for such activities: "this is the most Malone shit I’ve ever seen," Sara Laughingg commented.

Side-fights started breaking out among commentators.

A third-party felt the need to intervene with this well-meaning advice: "order of protections cannot contact anyone close to you or they violate. ... Get … locked up and off the streets. Fucking scum fuck crack head and his skank girlfriend."

The drama was so good friends tagged each other in it, like tag-team wrestling.

Gina DeMeo moved away from Malone, but her friend Angie Monica thought of her.

"Thank you," DeMeo commented. "Took me a good hour, but I got through all of it. I can honestly say seeing the whole piercing of the belly button thing did it for me"
