The right-wing's most vocal critic of Israel's war against the Palestinians is fighting back against attempts to silence her with claims she's anti-Semitic.
"There is a bounty on my head for the crime of refusing to hate Muslims, and condone Muslims getting bombed," Candace Owens said on Wednesday. "I'm not anti-Israel," she explained. "I'm just not anti-Palestinian."
"What is happening right now in this country politically is an evil,” the star Conservative commentator added. “It is wrong."
The revelations came a day after Owens hosted Rabbi Michael Barclay to debate the allegation against her on Monday. The extraordinary confrontation started with Barclay insisting on defining what anti-Semitism was. Despite an hour and forty-three minutes to do it, he never did. His definition kept changing. Owens' incisive questioning was like surgery without anesthesia.
Glenn Greenwald called the debate "a window into the climate that we have in the United States right now." It highlights "the space or lack of space" for Americans to criticize Israel and "question why the United States Government is paying for its military and its wars."
Owens upped the ante on Wednesday. She was "refusing to allow my voice to be controlled."
"Every single political commentator in America knows," she pressed, "that if you don't say things that are radically pro-Israel ..., and they want you to be radically pro-Israel, you could lose everything. That is the truth. That is a fact."
Her accusers, she said, weren't victims. They were perpetrators, trying to silence her by exercising "real power, hiding behind the veneer of victimhood." All because "I won't hate on command."
"I don't feel like I have to hide that anymore," she added. "I've endured this for years."
Actor Michael Rappaport, a Jewish New Yorker and outspoken supporter of Israel’s war against the Palestinians in Gaza, said this in a public video statement published via social media in February.
We’re fighting louder and prouder every day. Okay. And those Jews behind the scenes that may or may control the world, control the Government and control Hollywood, they are laser-focused. They are laser-focused. Taking care of business. Yeah, we control it all. Or do we?
The battle between Owens and the pro-Israel right erupted from a long-simmering feud between her and Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, a Jewish religious personage who promotes himself as "America's Rabbi." Owens blasted a kosher sex-toy shop run by his daughter.
"There is nothing holy about the industrialization of sex," the Christian Conservative Owens said in a statement published on X, the social media website formally called Twitter, on Mar. 11.
Rabbi Shmuley fired back with racially-loaded terms that, in effect, called the Black-American Owens a monkey: "troglodyte, knuckle-dragging, Neanderthal anti-Semitic, thug."
Owens replied:"Rabbi Schmuley and his hag daughter have spent TWO YEARS harassing me publicly with smears, complete with demands that I suffer financially for not parroting their perspectives. I've had enough."
The Jerusalem Post first reported the dispute Mar. 11. Its headline: "Candace Owens, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach squabble over antisemitism, blackmail and Kanye West."
Isaac Schorr, a staff writer for Mediaite, a hard-right news blog that freely mixes news and opinion, observed the internecine cultural warfare among America's right-wing on Monday, "How Long Will the Daily Wire Stand By Candace Owens?"
Owens' show appears on the Daily Wire, an arch-Conservative website co-founded by ex-Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro.
Schorr's opinion piece equated Owen's claim Israel is committing genocide in Gaza with anti-semitism.
Since the cross-border attack on Israel by Palestinian militia on Oct. 7, Schorr alleged "she’s worked earnestly and incessantly to cultivate a following on the anti-Semitic right." According to Schorr, she did this by being "a fierce critic of Israel, arguing its war in Gaza constitutes a genocide."
"What they're doing to me is psychological terrorism," Owens said on Wednesday. I "treat all racists the same. I refuse to be a supremacist. I refuse to condone supremacy. That is my crime."
